PracticeMaterial thinking; the effect of duration and performance upon the object: My practice currently explores material process and the ways in which materials might be said to ‘perform’. Experiments in materials such as wax emphasize a focus on time-based reactions. The interest of materials continuously caught within the process of formation and collapse present notations of entropy. Entropy within my practice focuses on themes of temporality and inevitability embedded within the essence of change. These ideas work alongside natures own gradual change as an object of flux. This flux is always present in the transformation of material. The pace of change is a variable within my practice that looks at aspects of a materials rhythm within transformation: Melting, evaporating and solidifying are everyday and mundane processes that are responsible for recycling matter though the linear formation of time. Through investigating these materials processes my practice aims to play with material performance and the viewer’s own context in relation to process as a duration.
